After gaining a Bachelor’s in Architecture at University of Michigan, Tom headed west following his interests in Energy Efficiency leading him to obtain a masters in Environmental Planning at ASU. This is where Tom first learned of Rammed Earth and has worked with it since. Travel in Mexico along with residing in the Barrios of Tucson for years has served as a foundation for how Tom sees regional design and community.
In Arizona, he learned about adobe and rammed earth construction as a means for moderating variable temperatures. Tom earned his master’s degree and moved to Tucson, where he expanded his knowledge of alternative and traditional building materials. After working in partnership with like-minded contractors for several years, he formed Rammed Earth Development INC.
