Barrio Santa Rosa

Urban Living

Located in the historic heart of Tucson, vacant parcels in Barrio Santa Rosa presented an opportunity to build houses with modern floor plans and amenities yet compatible with the surrounding traditional architecture. Over several years more than fifteen residences using adobe, rammed earth and frame wall systems were constructed in the neighborhood. Although each home reflects the tastes of the owners, the houses are united by Tom Wuelpern’s design philosophy that a neighborhood is more than the sum of the houses within it and that good design can influence the way neighbors live and interact with each other. In 2004 our work in Barrio Santa Rosa was awarded with the Sonoran Institute’s Appropriate Regional Architecture Award.
